normalhumangirl stewardship vote Closed Mon 6 Oct 2025 5:00AM

I'm checking for consensus on the following idea:

Adding normalhumangirl (@normalhumangirl.pleasetf.me) to the stewardship

normalhumangirl also volunteered to become a steward yesterday on the Zulip (October 1, 2025) and it is being nominated for stewardship on my behalf. it has been the main push behind redeveloping the Website League website and creating an actual onboarding process of any kind besides "knowing someone already on the Website League".

it has provided the following statement to me for stewardship, and what it would like to do in the role:

Hi everyone! I'm https://pleasetf.me/normalhumangirl (she/it) - perhaps you've seen my posts around. While I joined the League back in March, I have been following it with great interest ever since atomicthumbs first posted about it in the wake of the Cohost shutdown announcement. It is the only place of its kind that suits me at the moment and as such I feel very invested in it and its goals and would like to nominate myself as a steward.

I have approximate knowledge of many things computer. My programming skills are a little rusty (not the language) but I am confident in my ability to learn whatever languages and patterns I need to in order to contribute to League infrastructure. I hope particularly to be able to work with others on delivering League-specific features for the stack our nodes run on as well as the technical standards and documentation we will need for them. I'm experienced with web design and have done frontend and backend web programming in a few languages. I know Linux pretty well (NixOS btw) and systems administration doesn't scare me. I feel I have very good systems intuition and a pragmatic approach which will be able to help us make practical technical decisions. I have recently been developing a new websiteleague.org site and you can look at my thread on Coordination about this to see how I have engaged with the League processes already in doing so - I would like to continue the same way.

I also consider myself decent at communications writing and would very much like to contribute to comms efforts such as the newsletter.

I think a lot about social media, healthy online communities, and the ways folks exist online - informed by good experiences and bad ones. I've been responsible or shared responsibility for online communities in various forms (forums, discord servers, etc) throughout my life and would say I am confident in my social skills, intuition and ability to handle and mediate conflict. I hope that my perspectives on this will be helpful both organisationally as a steward and in thinking about the usability of the League and the kinds of interactions it can encourage.

Thank you for your consideration!

Meta notes

as taken from the alloyed vote that is also ongoing:

this is our [second] ever stewardship vote using the post-October 1, 2024 system we agreed to in the early days of the League. to refresh everyone on what that means: this system requires a consensus to add a new person. in other words, one explicit objection on a vote like this is sufficient to not add someone to the stewardship unless the person objecting changes their vote. (i am noting this because we may wish to revisit this as we actually start to use this procedure.)

all Stewards have a right to object to a candidacy for any reason they feel prudent; however, for a vote like this—not related to alloyed specifically, but just as a general rule of thumb since we are now using this procedure—i would hope and encourage people to be a little conservative with what they think justifies an explicit objection. if you have reservations about a candidacy that you also don't think justify killing the nomination entirely, this is what the intermediary option is for.

i think the provided candidacy statement lays out a straightforward rationale for adding normalhumangirl to the stewardship

Between the information provided here and my past interactions with her — yeah, no particular objections come to mind, and I think she's a good fit!

I agree that its candidacy statement and the efforts it's already made towards improving things definitely makes a good case, and I think the expertise provided will be well appreciated. As far as how dubious the claims of being a normal human girl may be, I'm a nonhuman critter and therefore can't provide expertise on what normal humans look like.

I am suspicious about how normal a human girl they might actually be, but i am also suspicious about how normal a human guy that i am so it's probably fine
