this is a test "statement of outcome" note, which we can do now :)

format test and also community size Closed Tue 24 Sep 2024 3:00PM
untitled (1)
in the interest of a healthy community, and keeping in mind the negative externalities of large communities, the website league community resolves to adopt these principles:
- smallness: each node maintains a reasonable size
- [some name idk]: retain a reasonable number of moderators and staff for their size
- [some name idk]: each node retains a reasonable amount of redundancy in their moderation and technical operations.
guidelines
specifically, as initial guidelines for these conversation, we recommend:
- a limit of 50 active members
- a staff ratio below 1:10, defined as # staff
to the # active users
- a moderator ratio below 1:20, defined as # moderation-focused staff members
to # active users
- at least two staff members for any [non-solo instance with people who aren't mutually and personally trusted idk? this is an anti-bus-factor and "you'll need coverage" recommendation]
rationale
these guidelines are starting points. these may be set aside based on node staff's best judgement, after consultation with the broader league. as an example, single user or household nodes [example]
these limits are intentionally low to ensure redundancy in moderation staff, to mitigate burnout. we do not wish prospective website league node staff do not prematurely overextend without first gaining the requisite social and/or technical experience.
we encourage node staff to develop mutual trust among their local node's community, so that additional volunteers may be recruited from within as necessary.
over time, website league nodes may approach or exceed these limits. website league nodes are expected to know their own limits, and slow down when appropriate.

i think it might be good to do these outside of "format tests," it's a little confusing on first glance. i think you can make a test thread without bombarding people's inboxes?
